According to the CDC, you should worry about ticks when it comes to Lyme disease, not about infected people. While not all ticks are infected (they get the bacteria by biting infected animals, such as deer and mice), you should definitely go to the ER if it happens to spot a tick attached to your body.

The bacteria remain in your blood. You can’t infect other people. The same applies to pets. If your beloved four-legged friend gets the bacteria, it can’t infect you.

Doctors say that the early signs and symptoms of Lyme disease are fatigue, a bull’s eye rash that appears around the infected area, and fever. If left untreated, people with Lyme disease can experience joint pain, headaches, as well as brain inflammation.
