In a recent study, researchers found that people who skip breakfast have higher glucose concentrations and increased fat oxidation, meaning their bodies broke down more stored fat. Because of this, the study suggests that people who skip breakfast may develop metabolic inflexibility, meaning their bodies would have difficulty switching their source of fuel from glucose to fat, and vice versa. In the long-term, this could lead to chronic inflammation and potentially raise their risk of type 2 diabetes and obesity.
