12 Reasons Why Your Scalp Itches Uncontrollably

Folliculitis

If your constant itching is actually accompanied by what seems to be red pimples, you may have folliculitis. Dr. Khatri says this is particularly true when the red pimples have hair in the center. Folliculitis is a pretty common skin condition that’s usually caused by a bacterial (Staphylococcus aureus) or fungal infection.

In most cases, the symptoms of folliculitis (itchy, burning skin) disappear without treatment within a week or so. However, Dr. Kronberg suggests using an antibacterial cleanser, and if the cleanser doesn’t do the trick either, you may need to take oral antibiotics.

Important note: While anyone can deal with folliculitis at some point in their lives, men are actually more susceptible to this condition due to shaving.
