10 Breast Cancer Myths Debunked

  • Too much caffeine can cause breast cancer – This myth needed for a long time now to be debunked FAST! Not only is completely untrue, but it’s also quite the opposite: studies show that caffeine consumption can reduce the risk of breast cancer.
  • Keeping mobile phones in your bra causes breast cancer – Some people believe that radio waves or radiation from mobile phones are at the root of breast cancer if the phones are stored in the front pocket or bra. But this hasn’t been scientifically proven in any way.
  • Injuries to the breast can lead to breast cancer – When your breasts are squeezed or injured, they could be bruising. Some of those bruises may develop into scar tissue from the injury that can feel like lumps, but those aren’t cancerous though.
  • All breast cancer is the same – As scientists have mentioned, breast cancer can have many different forms for everyone, depending on their genetic background. That’s why, in some cases, the treatment doesn’t work for everyone. Your genes can also dictate how fast cancer progresses.
  • You only need to have an annual mammogram to know if you’re cancer-free – A mammogram can detect any suspicious breast tissue, but data shows how the test can still miss up to 20% of breast cancer cases. That’s why, in addition to mammograms, it’s best if you do some regular self-examinations.
  • Any lump means cancer – There is lumpy breast tissue that is cancerous and lumps that are not. That’s why self-exams and doctor visits are important. The more you know, the better you can understand if something doesn’t feel right with your breasts.
