Patches of discolored skin are really common. Some of them are actually birthmarks while others appear due to pigmentation disorders, rashes, and infections. “That’s typically a bad sign because that usually indicates a more advanced cancer,” Bilchik says. “However, some people do have smaller cancers that block the bile duct, too, and they can be treated with surgery.” It’s really essential for people who experience this symptom to know the cause of their discolored skin, in order to get the right treatment for their medical problem.
