During a natural disaster, technology isn’t always reliable. So, you should keep in your emergency aid kit some low-tech items such as a hand crank, battery-powered radio and flashlight, and extra batteries, says Vogel.
You should also include some garbage bags for holding trash and for keeping your things dry. Consider a waterproof container to store your pills and some matches. Light plastic sheeting and duct tape can be extremely useful if you have broken windows during a hurricane or tornado, Vogel says.
However, in case technology managed to survive the storm, fire, or pandemic, you should keep some extra portable charging blocks on hand as well, says Tornetta. And you should also add to the list a car charger for your cell phone.
