Almost everything we eat contains sugar. And if you’re thinking you can easily spot the white stuff by reading labels, think again. Sugar has 56 different names. From glucose and sucrose to high fructose corn syrup, the white stuff has a different Halloween costume for the next 56 years.

Did you know that, in general, Americans eat almost 17 teaspoons of sugar per day? You probably don’t because we are referring to added sugar. Most processed foods are packed with added sugar, and, unfortunately, we don’t usually associate pasta sauces with the white stuff.

Consuming way too much sugar can lead to numerous health issues such as obesity, the latter resulting in diabetes, heart disease, osteoarthritis, and even stroke.
