Diabetes risk
People who spend more time sitting also have a 112 percent increased risk of diabetes. In a study that looked at the effects of just five days of bed rest, researchers saw increased insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes.
Varicose veins
When you sit for long periods of time, this can cause blood to pool in the legs and this leads to varicose veins or spider veins, which is a smaller version of the former. Generally, they aren’t harmful, but these visible and swollen veins can be unsightly. In rare cases, varicose veins can lead to more serious and damaging conditions, like blood clots.
