Meningococcal Disease
Once meningococcal disease progresses, the protective lining around the brain and the spinal cord can swell, or the bacteria can enter the bloodstream and cause a deadly infection.
One in 10 people who contract the bacteria will die even when being treated. The disease is caused by a bacterial infection that spreads from person to person while in close contact.
