7. Watch your portion size
When it comes to food, portion size really matters, especially when you’re dealing with cholesterol. Studies have shown that losing just 10% of your body weight can help lower your cholesterol and triglyceride levels, your blood pressure, your risk of diabetes and your risk of some types of cancer.
“Don’t eat more calories than you need. The best way to do that is to watch portion size, and don’t have second helpings. If you eat too much, you will never maintain a healthy, low weight, regardless of how much you exercise,” says Dr. Brinton.
