Why is delta harder to combat than other strains?

As studies have shown, the Delta variant is both more infectious and more capable of evading immunity earned by either vaccination or previous infection of Covid-19. The answer is still unclear, but scientists follow a certain combination of factors, such as:

  • It can replicate more rapidly and can reach higher concentrations in the upper airways.
  • It’s expelled in bigger quantities by infected peers.
  • Its viral particles are better at holding into the ACE2 receptor, which is an enzyme found on the surface of many cells that the virus uses to infect them.
  • It’s possible to be more efficient because it requires fewer viral particles or a lower infectious dose.
